About
Over 25 years of careful, institutional-grade work — applied to families.
Richard Mitchell is Portfolio Manager & Family Wealth Advisor at Bellwether Family Wealth. He brings over 25 years of investment industry experience, having previously worked with institutional investors, high-net-worth clients, global investment fund managers, multi-billion-dollar pension funds, and corporations in advisory and consulting capacities.
That breadth shapes the work. Most of his career was spent inside institutions — measuring performance, overseeing allocations, and stress-testing strategies for clients with very little tolerance for being wrong. The same standards are now applied, one household at a time, to the families he serves.
Education: B.A. Economics (Finance specialization), University of Waterloo.

Common questions
Direct answers.
- How are you compensated?
- Through a transparent, asset-based fee. There are no commissions on individual products, so my advice and your interests stay aligned.
- What is your investment philosophy?
- Plan first, invest second. Diversification across asset classes, low costs, tax efficiency, and behavioural discipline through market cycles.
- Is there an account minimum?
- Bellwether's family-wealth practice generally serves households with substantial accumulated assets. Every situation is reviewed individually — reach out and we can discuss your circumstances directly.
- Do you work with clients outside Ontario?
- Yes. Most client households are in the Greater Toronto Area, but I'm registered to serve clients across most Canadian provinces.
- Do you coordinate with my accountant or estate lawyer?
- Always. Where situations call for it, I work alongside accountants, estate counsel, and insurance specialists so the full picture stays coherent.
