About

Over 25 years of careful, institutional-grade work — applied to families.

Richard Mitchell is Portfolio Manager & Family Wealth Advisor at Bellwether Family Wealth. He brings over 25 years of investment industry experience, having previously worked with institutional investors, high-net-worth clients, global investment fund managers, multi-billion-dollar pension funds, and corporations in advisory and consulting capacities.

That breadth shapes the work. Most of his career was spent inside institutions — measuring performance, overseeing allocations, and stress-testing strategies for clients with very little tolerance for being wrong. The same standards are now applied, one household at a time, to the families he serves.

Education: B.A. Economics (Finance specialization), University of Waterloo.

Common questions

Direct answers.

How are you compensated?
Through a transparent, asset-based fee. There are no commissions on individual products, so my advice and your interests stay aligned.
What is your investment philosophy?
Plan first, invest second. Diversification across asset classes, low costs, tax efficiency, and behavioural discipline through market cycles.
Is there an account minimum?
Bellwether's family-wealth practice generally serves households with substantial accumulated assets. Every situation is reviewed individually — reach out and we can discuss your circumstances directly.
Do you work with clients outside Ontario?
Yes. Most client households are in the Greater Toronto Area, but I'm registered to serve clients across most Canadian provinces.
Do you coordinate with my accountant or estate lawyer?
Always. Where situations call for it, I work alongside accountants, estate counsel, and insurance specialists so the full picture stays coherent.
